The Days of High, Wedges and Flip Flops

I haven't been posting lately.  Until this week it was due to working a lot and having a great summer.  The Man and I bought 2 Kayak's last week and we had a blast.  Our plan was to take off to the lake this morning and just do it all over again.  That all changed last Tuesday morning.

My normal weekday routine is to get up at 5am grab my purse and phone then go upstairs for coffee, make up and a daily dose of news.  This Tuesday had something else in store for me.  I got as far as the top of the stairs and somehow my mind thought there was another stair so I stepped high and guess what...............there were no more stairs and I stepped up into thin air!   I went air born into the wall and crashed down on my right side.  I heard a crack and was afraid to move.  I yelled for the Man and he couldn't move me either.  Next thing we were calling the ambulance to take me to the hospital.  The poor paramedics had to pry me from behind the door. pull me up and onto the flat board by my sleeping shirt.  Off for the two minute ride to the emergency room.  Yep within an hour my ex-rays confirmed I had broken my right hip, bruised my right ribs and sprained my right wrist.

Surgery took place Tuesday evening.   I was so medicated I couldn't even sign my name.  Two hours and 3 rods later I was being moved back to my room.

From there on there was nothing but pain.  I have a new appreciation for anybody that has or will go through this type of weight bearing break.  By the time I get through this recovery I will probably be able to try out for a women's weight lifting team.

I came home from the hospital yesterday.  Sore, exhausted and really just totally beside myself.
I slept for 7 hours last night which is probably more total sleep than I got in the last 3 days.
Today I woke up refreshed and energized.  Moving better, feeling better and most important a brand new positive attitude.
I will get through these next two months of rehabilitation.  I just hope to come out of the whole ordeal with a better attitude towards everything.

Now, back to my title.  I wouldn't have a blog about clothes and style if I didn't love it.  I am a shoe junkie.  My favorite being wedges and cute flip flops.   Those are so out of my shoe vocabulary at least for months maybe forever.  Fortunately I was just starting to get into flats and had purchased a cute pair of leopard print smoking slippers.  Trust me when I say they are now my go to tootsie covers.

I guess I'll be using this walker for a few months so my current go to outfit is something loose that I can get down quickly so when I finally make it to the potty all of the potty goes where it's supposed to!

I refuse to feel sorry for myself.  I know 54 is young to break a hip and even if I didn't know it I am reminded of it everyday.  I will probably use this blog as a mental recovery tool.  I guess all I can hope for is that when I am writing or at least when I press send my pain medication is low in my system.  I'm loopy enough, don't want to publish loopy blogs too!

Yesterday when I got home I wanted to stay outside for a while.  We hadn't put the PP inside yet so I had the man set it up under the deck with a cover around it.  Just for fun here is a pic.

Stay tuned for more old lady adventures!

  4. I am sure I'm not the only reader that has wondered where you were. It's really awful about the hip!! I have known a few people that have had this kind of surgery and have done very well. It's not easy at rehab, but the end result is worth the hard work. Thinking and praying for you. Your fellow Hoosier.
